What happens if a payment fails

The dunning retry schedule, when an account moves to read-only, and how to recover after a failed payment.

Cards expire and bank transfers occasionally fail. We try to recover without interrupting your work.

Dunning schedule

  • Day 0 — payment fails. Email sent immediately to the firm owner and any billing contact. Product continues to work.
  • Day 3 — automatic retry. Reminder email if it fails again.
  • Day 7 — second retry. Final reminder before restrictions begin.
  • Day 10 — third retry. Account moves to read-only if it still fails.
  • Day 14 — final retry, then suspension if no resolution.

Read-only state

In read-only mode you can still view every record, export everything, and update payment details. New calculations and journal posting are paused. As soon as a payment succeeds, the account is restored to normal — instantly.

Recovering after suspension

Update the card or payment details from billing settings and we'll retry immediately. If it succeeds, the account reactivates with no data loss. If it doesn't, contact billing@onesixth.app and a human will help.
